About the event

A beloved Scottish Competition is coming to the Central Coast with the inaugural Pearly Spurtle: A Festival of Porridge — a quirky, community-driven event celebrating creativity, culture, and connection through a humble bowl of oats.

Inspired by the famous Golden Spurtle — the annual World Porridge Making Championships held in Carrbridge — the Pearly Spurtle brings a distinctly local twist to this time-honoured competition. Participants will go head-to-head in both traditional and creative categories, showcasing everything from classic techniques to bold, imaginative flavours.

The Golden Spurtle has even made it to the big screen, with Australian filmmaker Constantine Costi capturing its charm and eccentricity in his documentary on the championships. View the film trailer here.

Ahead of its debut, the Pearly Spurtle is already stirring up interest — from media, potential partners, the 2022 Golden Spurtle Creative Division Winner, and even members of the Carrbridge organising committee, all keen to see how Australians will make this event their own.
