Oktoberfest a roaring good time

Oktoberfest came to Pearl Beach with plenty of beer, bratwurst and Bavarian spirit — and what a night it was!

The Memorial Hall was transformed into a fabulous Hofbräuhaus-style beer hall, complete with the atmosphere to match. A huge thank you to Pippa and Brian Binfield, whose decorations helped create a fantastic setting for the evening.

One of the highlights was the wonderful mix of people who came along — young and old, locals and visitors — all getting into the spirit of the night. Plenty made the effort to dress the part too, with dirndls and lederhosen adding to the Bavarian flair.

The local band The Pearlers provided the music and atmosphere, with plenty of people keen to get up and have a go at some good old-fashioned German dancing. The dance floor got a serious workout!

There was plenty of fun and competition too, with the Masskrugstemmen (stein-holding competition) putting some serious muscle to the test, while the pretzel-throwing provided plenty of laughs.

The beer was clearly a hit — we actually ran out twice! The keg was such a success is is sure to become a permanent feature of future Oktoberfests.

The Käsebrezeln and  Bratwurstsemmeln went down a treat, with everyone tucking into the hearty fare.

The night was the brainchild of Helga, whose idea has clearly struck a chord with the community. Given how popular the event was, Oktoberfest looks set to become an annual Pearl Beach tradition.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who gave their time and energy to make the night possible. From setting up and decorating the hall to serving food and drinks, running the competitions and helping pack everything away, it was a real team effort.

Prost to that — and see you at Oktoberfest next year!
