Competitions

Traditional Porridge Competition

Only oatmeal (pinhead, coarse, medium, or fine), water, and salt are allowed. No rolled oats or quick oats. In Australia, the equivalent to traditional Scottish oatmeal (non-rolled) is steel-cut oats or, for a closer texture, coarse-ground oatmeal. Unlike rolled oats, which are steamed and flattened, steel-cut oats are whole groats chopped.

Entry fee:

  • Early Bird (before 1st June) $40

  • Regular fee $70

First Prize - Pearly Spurtle Perpetual Trophy (name engraved), individual medal & $500 prize money.

Creative Porridge Competition

Oat Requirement: Can include rolled oats

Innovation: Creative savory or sweet ingredients are encouraged

Preparation: Ingredients cannot be pre-cooked or pre-combined
